Buildbase Oxford & District League
Oxford A set up an Oxford & District League Inter-Area Cup quarter-final clash against either Wallingford C or Eynsham A after beating Oxford C 5-0 in their return leg second-round clash at the Gladiators Club, writes PETE EWINS.
Alan Oliver (7,290) won the opening leg against Terry Green, before Mark Trafford (10,120), Steven Sheard (10,000) and Kevin Godfrey (6,330) saw Oxford stroll into a 4-0 lead.
Dave Tooke (6,710) then completed the whitewash for an 8-2 aggregate win.
In the Inter-Area C Team competition, Oxford C overturned a 3-2 first-leg deficit with a 4-1 victory against Wycombe C in the return leg to go through 6-4 on aggregate.
Eddie Tebby (5,350) and Geoff Mace (6,650) shone in the first leg.
In the return, John Patey (3,240), Richard Garrett (6,820) and Billy Hill (5,460) reeled off the first three games to take a 5-3 lead.
Wycombe pulled a game back in the fourth to make it 5-4. A gritty performance by Eddie Tebby in the last game secured victory by winning 4,200-3,710.
Meanwhile, Bob Pincombe was elected as chairman at the league’s annual meeting.
He takes over from Dave Rose, while Dave Took replaces Keith Sheard as competition secretary.
