Horley took advatnage of a decimated programme with a 44-run victory over Great Horwood on Saturday to stretch their lead at the top of OCA League Division 1 to 23 points, writes Kieren Bushnell.
With the rest of Saturday’s top-flight programme abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain, Horley posted 158-9 in a match reduced to 40 overs per side.
Jon Hart top-scored with 72, while Simon Ridgway was the pick of the Horwood bowlers with 4-34.
In reply, Horwood crashed to 114 all out, Nick Tarrant taking 5-37.
On Sunday, Horwood played again, and got off to a good start at Freeland.
However, with their score at 98-1, the rain returned and the match was abandoned.
In Division 2, Hook Norton defeated Faringdon by 71 runs.
Batting first in a 35 overs-a-side game, Hooky amassed a formidable 231-4, Tim Lunel hitting 74, Cliff Dare 57 and Nick Leader 55 not out.
In reply, Faringdon managed only 160-9, Ian Oglesby top-scoring with 80 and Dare taking 3-24.
Letcombe proved too strong for a youthful Minster Lovell as they eased to a 141-run win.
Pat Bryan (65no), Robin Wood (49) and Richard Taylor (47) helped Letcombe to 236-7, before Minster slumped to 95 all out, Wood taking 4-12 and Joe Benson 3-43.
Watlington saw off Northleach Town by 24 runs.
Steve Strong scored 34 in Watlington’s 131 all out, but it was enough as Northleach, minus their ex-Zimbabwean Test ace Neil Ferreira, crashed to 107 all out. Neil Maguire took 4-18 and Strong 3-39.
On Sunday, Garsington edged past East & West Hendred by three runs.
Neil Bound scored 73 and Paul Hicks 54 as Garsington posted 194 all out, before Hendred were restricted to 191-9, Ian Clewley top-scoring with 38.
