IAN Moss, from the Butchers Arms, Witney, claimed his first singles title by beating Jon Jukes (Original Swan) in the Winter League final.
Moss came out on top in a close contest to leave Jukes rueing his missed doubles.
A large crowd at Rover Sports & Social Club witnessed some of the most exciting finals in recent years.
The ladies’ singles was a repeat of last season’s Summer League final when Paulette Guy defeated Shelley teammate Kim Ledbury.
This time around, Ledbury gained her revenge as a 2-1 win gave her a first singles title.
The men’s winter pairs title went to the Shears pairing of Preben Krabben and Dave Exell, who defeated Joe Palmer and Aaran Stevens (Railway SC) 2-0.
Shelley Arms pair Clare Bywaters and Tina Hamilton won the ladies’ pairs, beating Jeanette Bowler and Nina Chewings.
Bywaters and Hamilton took the opening game easily, but Bowler and Chewings put up stout resistance in the second leg leaving a double, only for Bywaters to hit the winning double to clinch a 2-0 win.
The Shears are the four-a-side champions after Pete Hall, Kevin Wilkins, Preben Krabben won as they defeated Rose Hill Community Centre.
Bywaters, Hamilton and Carol Harwood (Shelley Arms) took The Tess Walker Cup (three-a-side) when they beat Norma Brain, Eileen Johnson and Tracy Davies from East Oxford Conservative Club.
The husband-and-wife pairing of Mick and Irene Richardson (North Oxford Conservative Club) saw off Kevin Wilkins and Angie Godfrey (Shears) to win the mixed pairs title.
The ladies’ Seven-a-Side Cup was won by the Shelley Arms D, who defeated Donnington Community Centre 4-1.
Donnington went in front when Ann Marks beat Jo Glee,d but Shelley stormed back with wins from Michelle Ewins, Natalie Creed, Carol Harwood and Clare Bywaters.
The most exciting final saw the Shears beat Railway SC A in the men’s Seven-a-Side Cup.
First blood went to The Railway when Joe Palmer overcame Mark Ord, but Jim Pryde beat Ollie Varney to level.
Steve Foster defeated Pete Hall to put the Railway 2-1 ahead and once again the Shears drew level with Kevin Wilkins beating Phil Addison.
Railway led for a third time when Roger Haines beat Kevin Barefoot to put them 3-2 ahead.
Shears squared it when Dave Exell beat Aaran Stevens. In a tense last game, Krabben saw off Ronnie Anderson to give Shears an exciting 4-3 win.
TEAMS should note that Summer League competition entry forms must be in by Saturday.
