North Oxford teams are flying high at the head of the top Wilson OLTA League Mixed divisions after emphatic wins at the weekend.

North Oxford A cruised to their third successive 4-0 victory in the Yellow Division, this time at second-placed Thame A.

Struggling Abingdon visited top-of-the-table North Oxford B in the Violet Division and suffered the same fate.

The North Oxford B team, consisting of Andy Sides and Louise Purton, and Mark and Antonia Bruce, proved too strong.

However, they didn't have it all their own way with the Abingdon duo Paul Woodman and Gail Viney winning their second rubber 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.

North Oxford B stretch their lead to three points, making them favourites to take the Divison 1 slot next season.

Hot on their heels are original favourites Banbury. They hosted a strong Goring side, comprising Sally Pickering and Andy Goodwin, and Megan and Angus Jones.

Banbury’s second pair of Marc Gilkes and Caroline Thom won both their matches – 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-4.

The most exciting contest of the weekend took place at Thame in the Yellow Division.

The match was a very close affair with North Oxford A’s 4-0 victory not doing the hosts any justice.

Thame’s Maria Lawton and Neil James lost to Hannah Booth and Dave Rooney 6-3, 5-7, 6-7, and lost to Judy Davis and Jack Rooney 3-6, 7-5, 6-7.

Dawn Munro and Ian Catchpole were beaten 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 by Booth and Rooney, and lost to Davis and Rooney 0-6, 5-7.

Witney A are setting the pace in the Peach Division after their 3-1 triumph against second-placed Oxford City A.

Their quartet of Dave Hill-iard, Carol Roughton, and Mark and Tiffany Adam proved just too strong for Oxford City’s Jon Ruddock, Katja Hartwich, Duncan Todd and Jo Love.

NORTH Oxford beat Woodstock 3-0 in the Oxfordshire section of the AEGON Team Tennis event.

The clean sweep by Chloe Allen and Catriona Murray gave North Oxford their first victory of the season in the competition.
