BANBURY United manager Billy Jeffrey admits he has no idea if star striker Nicky Gordon will still be with the club next year, writes NICK FARRANT.

Southern League Premier Division side Leamington claim to have signed Gordon, but Jeffrey is unaware that last season’s leading scorer has moved on.

According to the Warwickshire club’s official website Gordon, who has been at Banbury since 2007 and scored 14 goals last season, will join them on his return from America where he is on a football coaching course.

Their manager, Jason Cadden said: “He is a fantastic forward who will give us something extra.

“His goalscoring record is first class and we moved quickly to sign him as he is someone we have been after for a while and we didn't want to lose out."

However, Jeffrey said he knew nothing of Gordon’s move.

“I haven’t had the chance to speak to him to find out what his plans are,” said Jeffrey.

“I’ve twice tried to contact him, but he hasn’t returned my calls.

“But if he has joined Leamington, you would have thought he could have phoned me.

“If he’s gone, then I can’t do anything about it.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey said he was philosophical about which division his side would be playing in next season.

Banbury were relegated from the Premier Division, but are still waiting to see if they will be reprieved should rivals Merthyr go to the wall.

The Welsh side won a temporary reprieve in their on-going fight against closure as supporters prepared to launch a campaign to save their club.

Jeffrey added: “I think Merthyr will be okay. Their supporters are working so hard to get the money.

“But it’s making it difficult with pre-season when we don’t know what division we are going to be in.”
