Oxford City’s Danielle Anderson was celebrating after she won the under 17 girls’ javelin competition at the weekend’s South of England Under 15/17 Championships in Ashford, Kent.
Anderson was lying in fifth place with one round to go, but pulled out a throw of 42.30m to beat UK No 1 Freya Jones from Team Solent.
Rebecca Hussey was also on form, clocking a personal best of 39.91 secs to finish fourth in the 300m.
It was a great day for Bicester’s athletes, who took home four medals.
James Wright and Jackson Curtis competed in the under 17 long jump against a strong field.
Wright suffered an injury scare on his first attempt before grabbing a silver medal with a personal best of 6.68m on his last jump, while Curtis recorded a best of 6.23, but finished outside the medal positions.
In the under 15 boys’ javelin, Freddie Curtis threw 47.25m to take silver, beating a higher ranked athlete into third place with a succession of consistent throws.
Rosie Kingston ran a personal best of 12.48secs to finish third in her heat of the under 17 80m hurdles, missing out on the final by an agonising one hundreth of a second.
Wright was back in action in the triple jump.
Although unable to repeat the distance he recorded to win the Oxfordshire County Championship title, Wright leapt 13.74m to take an excellent bronze medal.
Curtis rounded off a successful weekend in the under 17 boys’ javelin.
All his throws sailed over the 50m mark.
And he smashed his personal best several times to win a bronze – his longest throw being 56.72m.
