There was a good turn-out of 22 anglers representing Dorchester, Benson and Jolly Anglers for the Berks/Oxon match on Boddington last Sunday, writes ANDY WEBBER.

The water fished well with plenty of carp coming to the nets.

And it was Dave Mitchell who took the honours with 130.5.0 on the method feeder with pellet.

Also fishing the method and pellet, Warren Cave came second with 122.0.0 of carp, while Rob Rose finished third with 96.13.0. He also used the method, but alternated between pellet and maggot.

Beehive AC fished for their Larman Shield in horrendous conditions at Lower Court Farm, where the 16 matchmen had to put up with galeforce winds and heavy rain for half the match.

The carp did oblige, however, with Kevin Jeacock chalking up a hat-trick of wins. He alternated between paste and long pole fished shallow in the margins with maggot for a winning 123.6.0.

Shaun Percy fished the waggler and maggot for 89.4.0 and second place, followed by Chris Dingle, who used pole and pellet to for 63.6.0.

The penultimate match in the Predator Spring League was fished by 19 on a very wet and windy Rye Hill and once again there were some good weights despite the horrible conditions.

The first three anglers all used the same tactics – method feeder with corn to the far bank.

Andy Benwell (Predator) triumphed with a net of carp weighing 64.6.0, while Predator’s Matt Ryman finished second with 41.0.0 and Bernadette Malone third with 28.12.0.

Fishing their first fixture of their new match season, Yarnton AC were on the middle lake at Butler’s Hill, where nine anglers turned out.

At the weigh-in, Scott Miller (Predator) came in first with a net of carp on pole and pellet worth 48.9.0.

Second and third places were both filled by junior members.

Harry Oliver fished the pole at ten metres with pellet and weighed in 28.12.0, while not far behind was Ross Ganderton with 24.7.0 from the margins, alternating between maggot and pellet.

There was an excellent turn-out of 24 for Kinloch’s club match at Ivey House, which was not easy, although there were plenty of small fish in the water.

Paul Woodley came out on top with a net of small carp weighing 26.6.0, having alternated between corn and maggot.

Marcus Davies also got amongst the carp on corn and maggot for a second-placed 15.8.0, while third spot went to Dean Bowerman, who put 15.2.0 of small carp on the scales. He used maggot on the hook.

It was a difficult day all-round for the 15 anglers who fished the Masons’ match at Frobury Farm, near Newbury, with heavy rain and gusting winds seeming to put the fish off.

Dennis Patrick took top spot with a net of mainly small carp to pole and pellet for 20.10.0.

Second was Alan Smith with small carp weighing 14.0.0, followed by Dave Pether with 13.4.0.
