Former Oxford RFC captain, chairman and president Don Barrett has died aged 72.
Barrett first played for Oxford on leaving Magdalen College School in 1954.
In the 1961-2 and 1962-3 seasons he captained the Oxford Nomads team, and then skippered the first XV during a very successful 1963-4 season.
Barrett was a member of the Oxon team that reached the County Championship semi-final for the first time, against Durham, in 1965.
His playing career was curtailed by a serious hip injury early in the 1965-6 season.
Barrett leaves a wife, Joy, four children, Joe, Vicky, Christopher and Nicky, and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral takes place on Friday at Oxford Crematorium (11).
Dan Spencer will captain Bicester next season, while fellow flanker Anthony Nightingale joins the coaching staff.
Spencer, who succeeds Anthony Lewis, and Nightingale were elected to their posts at Bicester’s annual meeting.
