Ian Harry was the star of the show as an understrength Oxford Saints made it three wins out of three in BAFL Division 1 with an 8-0 victory over Birmingham Bulls.

Harry, known as the ‘Ice’, finished with seven tackles, a fumble recovery and a sack in the end zone as defence dominated.

Following a pointless first period, Saints went ahead when Harry raced through the Bulls’ line and nailed their quarterback in the end zone.

There was little between the sides after the break, with Oxford’s defence still snuffing out the visitors’ threat.

And in the final period they made sure of the points when, from the one-yard line, Brian Myers took a handoff and bulldozed his way into the end zone for the touchdown.

The attempt for an extra point failed, but Birmingham were left with a huge task, and their fate was sealed when Ross Ghouldie intercepted a pass with two minutes left as Oxford comfortably saw out time.

Head coach Chris Janes said: “We knew it would be tough, and we knew we would struggle offensively, missing all the players that we did. But the defence were awesome.”
