A team of Didcot CC members are training for a fundraising cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats in July.

The ride will help fund the refurbishment of the pavilion and facilities at their Power Station ground and the group hope complete the 918-mile challenge in 12 days Support has already been given by The Marketing Bureau, Pryor’s Taxis and Bob’s Family Butchers.

Didcot chairman David Pryor said: “The pavilion has grown thanks to the efforts of our members and our landlords RWE nPower.

“But it needs significant further investment to bring it up to appropriate standards, and to fit with the modern image of Didcot.

“The Club need to improve facilities for younger cricketers, to cater for girls and boys and potentially to improve disabled access. Improvements are essential for the club’s expansion.”

Ten clubs have been drawn in round one of the Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Knockout Cup, with the remaining 11 securing byes.

The first round draw has been made on a zonal basis to reduce travelling, with matches being played on Tuesday, June 2.

First round draw: Abingdon Vale v Kingston Bagpuize, Aston Rowant v Thame Town, Oxford Downs v Shipton-under-Wychwood, Cropredy v Banbury Twenty, Cumnor v Challow & Childrey.

Gary Kirsten will captain a Tiddington XI against Oxford University Club and not Oxford University as reported last week.

The former South African Test star will play in the charity Twenty20 clash at Tiddington CC on Bank Holiday Monday, starting at 1.30pm.
