Competitors in this year’s Mazda Blenheim Triathlon who may never have experienced swimming in open water have the chance to take the plunge – ahead of the main events on the weekend of June 6/7 - thanks to Oxford Tri.

The club are holding three more sessions at Cassington Pit, located just before the village on the A40, aimed at familiarising triathletes with every aspect of open water swimming under the guidance of experienced coach Mike Dunmore.

Each session will include acclimatising to the water temperature, getting used to wearing a wetsuit, learning how to swim in a straight line, learning how to complete transitions and practising open water starts.

The aim of the exercise is to give the triathletes a taster ahead of race day.

At each session, which costs £12.50 or £35 for all four, people are split into small groups which are each accompanied by an experienced open water swimmers and there will be at least one canoeist on the water at all times.

Sessions continue today at 9.30am and are held every Saturday until May 30. Competitors are advised to arrive by 9.15am.
