Spectacular throwing proved the highlight of the Oxfordshire Track & Field Championships at Hors-path Road.

Radley’s Emma O’Hara produced the stand-out result of the weekend in the under 15 girls’ hammer.

O’Hara smashed the previous record by almost ten metres as she won the event with 39.15m.

Perriss Wilkins (Banbury) lifted himself to third in the South East area discus rankings with an excellent throw of 50.19m, shattering the previous Vet 35 championship record by almost 12 metres.

There was an extraordinary performance from Bicester’s Jackson Curtis in the under 17 boys’ javelin.

He threw a massive 52.56m to win the title and smash the championship record by more than a metre.

Curtis also took victories in the shot (11.47m) and discus (35.23).

It was a successful weekend for other members of the Curtis family.

Freddie Curtis won the under 15 javelin with 44.91m, while young Redford Curtis took the under 13 javelin with a championship record of 38.87.

Freddie also added the under 15 high jump title to his medal haul, clearing 1.63m.

It proved to be a great day for Bicester, with James Wright also in form.

He won the under 17 boys’ long jump with 6.52m and 200m in 23.9secs.

His superb leap of 14.26m to win the triple jump was just a centimetre shy of the longest in Britain this year for his age group.

Under 13 Tom Bosher’s winning leap of 4.94m in the long jump took him to the top of the UK rankings for his age group, and he also claimed titles in the shot (9.76m) and the high jump (1.55m).

There was another ‘family affair’ from White Horse Harriers, as two of their younger athletes went gold crazy.

Chloe Craze had a poor start in the under 13 girls 100m, but powered through the field to take the gold medal in a new club record time of 13.6.

The same tactics served her well in the 200m where she also won gold in 28.7.

Her younger brother, Ryan won the 75m for boys aged ten.

Elsewhere on the track, Seb Tulley-Middleton (Banbury Harriers) broke championship records in both the under 20 men’s 100m and 200m with times of 10.87secs and 22.00secs respectively.

Performance of the day on the track, however, came from Radley’s Christian von Eitzen, who moved top of the national rankings at under 13 level with a blistering 2.16.6 in the boys’ 800m, eclipsing the old mark by nearly four seconds.

Meanwhile, Richard Jegou (White Horse Harriers) and Dave Kuester (Bicester) proved that age is no barrier to breaking records.

Jegou improved the vet 60 discus best to 35.15m, while in the vet 60 hammer, Kuester threw 34.03, beating the previous record of 32.65.

Banbury Harrier Bruce Hendrie was unopposed to set new records in four vet 60 track events, the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m.

His clubmate, Margaret Coombe, also swept the board with victories in four vet 65 women’s events of shot, discus, javelin and pole vault.

  • UNFORTUNATELY, due to a lack of results being provided from this year’s championships, we have had to reduce our planned coverage from the event.
