Saxton Rovers lifted the North Berks Cup with a 1-0 victory against Blewbury at Abingdon United FC to complete the clean sweep and re-write the league’s history books.

North Berks League Division 1 champions Rovers, who this season celebrated their 50th anniversary, became the first team in the league history to achieve the feat, having already won the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup and the North Berks Charity Shield.

A late strike from Ben Sutton was enough to seal victory for Saxton, who are unbeaten this season.

With ten minutes left and the game locked at 0-0, extra-time looked likely. However, Sutton’s left-foot shot saw Saxton lift the cup.

It was a good day for Saxton. Their ten-man reserve side won the AG Kingham Cup as they fought back to beat Drayton Res 2-1.

And they did it the hard way after Saxton had their keeper Angelo Granito sent off.

Carl Bolton hit the bar, while at the other end, Wayne Waldron’s effort was kicked off the line.

Saxton were reduced to ten men when Granito was sent off after rushing out of his area to bring down Oram.

And it got even worse for Saxton when Paul Empson header beat Granito’s replacement, skipper James Hawthorne, to give Drayton the lead.

However, just before the break, a mistake from keeper Graham Coulthard allowed Mike Quinlan’s speculative shot to slip through his grasp for the equaliser.

Late into injury-time, Neil Pether headed the winner.

In Division 1, a strike from Ben Taylor earned Wootton & Dry Sandford a 1-0 win and a third-place finish against Faringdon Town.

Harwell Village wrapped up fourth place with a 5-1 home victory over AFC Wallingford.

JR Willis scored twice for Harwell, with other goals coming from Ady Junkinson, Ross Butler and Michael Rouse. Andy Gibbons replied for Wallingford.
