Thame Town got their Division 2 West campaign off to a flying start with a convincing 71-run victory in the penultimate over away to Wokingham on Saturday Inserted on a pitch with some early movement, Thame were struggling at 65-3 when skipper Rob Brooks was joined by all-rounder Luke Merry.
They put on 84 for the fourth wicket, with Merry going on to make 72 and Brooks 55 in Thame's total of 222 all out in the last of their 60 overs.
When Wokingham replied, they were in deep trouble at 30-5 against the opening attack of Sam Lachlan, who claimed 3-14 off ten overs, and Merry, who returned 3-55 off 17.4 overs.
Ruki Soza (49) and Rahul Thava (49) fought back for Wokingham, before left-armer Jaydeep Bhatti (4-29) spun his way through the lower order.
The last wicket fell to Merry (pictured right) with eight balls to spare to give Thame a well-deserved victory .
