Radley's Steve Wren had an outstanding day with three victories as they finished an encouraging second in their first Southern League Division 3 West match of the new season at Andover.

In a tight match, the host club won by 141/2 points, but there were plenty of good individual performances, none moreso than from Wren.

These came in the high jump (1.75m), long jump (6.01m) and pole vault (3.20m).

His pole vault display was a personal best and a club record.

Wren also leapt 11.40m in the triple jump, threw 10.22m in the shot and 37.59m in the javelin.

Elsewhere, Ben Owen suffered a rare defeat in the 100m.

He clocked 11.2secs – exactly the same time as Andover’s own man, James Folkes, who was given the nod at the line.

Owen also had to settle for second place in the 200m, clocking 22.9.

Debutant Brian Taylor broke two veteran club records in the long jump (5.70m) and triple jump (10.89m), while Alex Ahmet threw 28.57m in the javelin.

Alastair Duncan also shone, gaining a personal best of 22.95m in the discus.

Back on the track, there was a double victory for Paul Jegou.

He won the 5,000m in 17.20.5 and the B string 1500m in 4.24.7.

Phillipe Essink won the 800m in 1.58.6.

Result: 1 Andover & Overton 107.5pts, 2 Radley 93, 3 Team Kennet 83.5, 4 Royal Navy 60.
