Centuries from openers Richard Kaufman and Chris Sandbach helped Oxfordshire to a 72-run victory over Oxford University in The Parks on Monday.
They put on 203 for the first wicket as Oxon made 293-3 after being inserted, then ex-Oxford University captain Paul McMahon finished the job by taking the final four wickets.
The off-spinner's controlled display snuffed out any chance of a home win, but this had always been remote after acting captain Kaufman and Sandbach got going.
Kaufman was first to fall for exactly 100 off 118 balls including 17 fours, while Sandbach hit 12 fours and two sixes in his 107 from 105 balls.
Alex Jewell and Shahbaz Ali were the not out batsmen as Oxon cruised to 293-3 in a rain-shortened 48 overs-a-side match.
The university bowlers suffered in general, with Charlie Hill (2-53) and Tom Bryan (1-60) their only wicket-takers.
Chasing 294 to win was always going to be a tough challenge for the students, but at 170-3 with 14 overs to go, their hopes were still alive.
Captain Alex Ball batted well for his 72 before being trapped lbw by Banbury spinner Jimmy Phillips.
The students shot themselves in the foot when Willem Klopper completely mis-timed a drive off Phillips and skied a simple catch to wicket-keeper Jewell.
It was Oxfordshire all the way from that point and Bryan soon followed after gifting a run out to Ian Crosby.
McMahon finished with 4-38 and Phillips 3-52, while Matt Hancock and David Smith claimed a wicket apiece.
Hill made 34 with the bat as did Abingdon wicket-keeper Dan King, who opened the innings.
Scores: Oxfordshire 293-3 (48 ovs, C Sandbach 107, R Kaufman 100), Oxford University 221 (42.4 ovs, A Ball 72). Oxon won by 72 runs.
