Henley’s two rugby clubs have remerged in a bid to improve their collective finances.
The move means Henley Wanderers have withdrawn from South West 2 East, effectively becoming Henley Hawks’ second team.
Henley’s second team will play in the Canterbury Shield, with the combined club fielding four sides. David Lewis, chairman of Henley Wanderers, said: “This merger into one club again will create a much stronger playing base in Henley.”
Henley Hawks chairman Phil Woodall said: “All involved in rugby at Dry Leas, players, supporters, members and sponsors will I am sure will benefit from the Wanderers decision.
“All can now work together to put Henley Rugby Club on a firm financial basis and see it prosper as a valuable contribution to community recreation.”
