Bantamweight Lawrence Lewis cast aside the disappointment of bowing out of this year’s ABA title trail by getting back to winning ways with a clear victory over Crown & Manor rival Matthew Chanda at the Kassam Stadium.

From the bell the pair went toe-to-toe and produced nine minutes of non-stop action that rightly produced a standing ovation.

Lewis had the edge on accuracy during this memorable battle.

The host Oxford Boxing Academy claimed six wins on the night with several boxers having their ring baptism – all students at Oxford Brookes University.

Among them lightweight George Stevens claimed a unanimous victory on his debut, but he had to come from behind after Milton Keynes rival Sam Griffiths set the initial pace.

Light welterweight Stuart Walford imposed his authority from the bell with a series of hook combinations to totally command his four-rounder with Woking’s Matthew Newman.

And he completed a busy weekend by running the London marathon to raise funds for the Cerebra charity.

At the same weight level, Steve Rees used his extra reach to land neat rights off the jab to get the better of Welwyn Garden City’s Daniel Walker-Mitchell.

With a round apiece, the middleweight clash between Mo Zadeh and Damien Davidson went all the way to the wire – and a sustained burst of activity from the Oxford Boxing Academy man in the final minute clinched victory.

Light middleweight Sam Goulding launched a body salvo that made Welwyn rival Martin Caulfield drop to one knee during the opening session, but the compliment was returned in the final round as the Oxford southpaw was rocked by a right uppercut.

Goulding’s greater productivity prevailed as he collected all three ringside votes.

Despite the more positive start, Alex Jerome could not match the accuracy of Welwyn rival Dan Regis during the final session and lost on a split decision.

And fellow welterweight Daza Usher narrowly missed out by the slimmest of margins following a bruising battle with Bedford’s Jon Callender.

Preye Ozeke lacked the accuracy of Hitchin rival Nathan Brede as he lost on points.

Sam Palk failed to match the precision of Londoner Alexander Richardson during an intense battle and lost on points.
