Christian Evans hit a hat-trick as Vale of White Horse Under 14s retained the Oxford Times Cup with a 4-0 win over Mid Oxon in the final at Letcombe FC.
However, the victory wasnot as convincing as the scoreline suggests with Mid Oxon missing two good chances to open the scoring, and then finding keeper Craig Hill, who has just been offered a scholarship at Chelsea, in top form.
Jake Johns gave Vale the lead with a mishit shot which looped over the keeper’s head, and Evans doubled their tally before half-time.
Evans added two more goals late on to complete his hat-trick.
l VALE of White Horse Under 15s paid the price for defensive errors as they went down 4-3 to Southampton in the Wright Cup final at Colden Common FC.
Poor marking from a free-kick allowed Southampton to take the lead, but Luke Edwards equalised following a long throw.
Vale then failed to clear a corner and Southampton went 2-1 up at half-time.
They struck again in the first minute of the second half, but Vale stormed back with Ben Whitehead firing into the top corner before equalising after he rounded the keeper.
However, poor marking presented Southampton with another chance and although the outstanding Leigh Bedwell made a great save, the ball fell to an opposition striker who tapped home the winner.
