United’s leading goalscorer James Constable felt a couple of team members maybe took it for granted that they would beat relegated Northwich.
Constable, who hit his 23rd goal of the season to make it 1-1 before Vics won the match in the 90th minute, said the whole team were well below their best.
“Maybe there were a couple of lads who said to themselves it was “a given”.
“The lads hold their hands up . . . we under-performed, and on the day we didn’t have enough.
“We had chances, there was one cleared off the line, Fazzer (Craig Farrell) had a couple of shots and so did one or two others.
“Northwich hit us on the break, but I don’t think they deserved to win the game,” said the striker, who finished as the Blue Square Premier’s second top scorer, behind Andy Mangan, of Forest Green Rovers.
“At the final whistle, we knew we’d not done enough, it’s bitterly disappointing.”
