Corby Tn 5 (Mettam 44, 70, Towers 60, Francis 77, 88)

Banbury Utd 0

Banbury United suffered relegation from the Premier Division after a crushing defeat by a Corby side playing in front of their biggest crowd for years to see them land the title.

However, it took the home side until late in the first half to open their account.

But things could have been different had the referee spotted a blatant handball in the penalty area in the second minute.

While Corby were the better team, Banbury defended in depth to thwart a lively home side.

The breakthrough came when Jason Lee flicked a header into the path of Leon Mettam, and he cleverly took the ball past Joe Murrell to put Corby in front.

Corby doubled their lead when Steve Towers side-footed a right-wing cross home from close range.

Ten minutes later, it was 3-0 when Mettam headed home his second.

The fourth goal came from a brilliant individual run from half-way by Joe Francis, who calmly slotted the ball home.

And two minutes from time, Banbury’s misery was confirmed when Francis converted a Steve Diggins cross from close range.
