THE players who have stood out this season are certain to get a raputurous ovation when they receive the player-of-the-year awards before kick-off at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday.
There are the Andrew Knapton Supporters’ Player of the Year Trophy, the award decided by text voting, and the Buildbase Players’ Player of the Year Trophy, voted for by all the first-team squad, to be presented.
In addition, there’s the Young Player of the Year award, voted for by United’s management and coaching staff.
Not surprisingly, top-scorer James Constable is the overwhelming favourite to pick up the main awards, although Billy Turley, Adam Murray, Adam Chapman and Luke Foster are sure to have received plenty of votes too.
Meanwhile, Constable looks set to just miss out on his target of finishing as the Conference’s top scorer – unless he can bag a hat-trick on Sunday.
Forest Green Rovers striker Andy Mangan hit a treble last weekend in his team’s 4-0 win against Rushden to move on to 25 league goals this campaign, three ahead of Constable.
Stevenage’s Steve Morison moved into second place on 23 with his goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Kidderminster.
