Oxford United are looking to smash this season’s best Conference attendance figure on Sunday.
It is currently held by Cambridge United, who attracted 6,488 for Histon’s visit on Boxing Day.
Oxford themselves had 6,231 for the Histon game on April 4, while Wrexham are the only other Blue Square Premier club to have recorded a 5,000-plus gate. They drew in 5,173 for their win over York in October.
Cambridge are likely to have another big attendance themselves on Sunday when a win at home to Altrincham, and defeat for Burton and Torquay, could earn them the title and automatic promotion.
Torquay too will have their biggest gate of the season, for their crunch promotion clash with Burton.
But both of those crowds could be dwarfed by an anticipated 9,000 gate at the Kassam Stadium, which would be United’s best attendance since the play-off semi-final second leg against Exeter when 10,691 packed in – including a good-sized following from Devon.
Relegated Northwich, on the other hand, will have only a couple of hundred fans at the game. Last season they brought 288 for the FA Cup tie at Oxford.
