Billy Turley says the other promotion-chasing clubs in the Blue Square Premier are dreading the possibility of Oxford United reaching the play-offs.

The U’s goalkeeper said after the memorable win at Burton that Oxford are the best team in the league, and that James Constable is the best striker in the division.

And with the stunning form they’ve been showing, he’s confident that, if they can sneak into a top-five place, no-one would want to face the U’s in the play-offs.

“I’ve got a few players I know playing at Steveange and one of two other clubs, and everyone’s talking about the charge Oxford are on. The last thing they want to do is play us over two legs.

“That’s a pipe-dream maybe, but the pressure is on them in the last game of the season.

“You see with the Burton game – when we put pressure on teams, you never know what can happen.”

Turley says Oxford are currently the best team in the league, efficient at the back, and good going forward.

They’ve now kept four successive clean sheets, and only twice in the last 27 games, since their FA Cup exit at Torquay in Darren Patterson’s final match in charge, have they failed to find the net.

“The last four months we’ve been hard to beat, we don’t give goals away,” said the 35-year-old keeper.

“The run-in we’ve had since the start of the year has been wonderful.

“Before that, we went to Histon and were 3-0 down, but that’s not the case any more.

“We’re hard to beat and good going forward and we’ve got some of the best players in the league.”
