Oxford City 1 (Faulkner 84)
Cambridge City 0
Substitute James Faulkner scored the late winner as ten-man Oxford City kept their Premier Division play-off hopes alive with victory against Cambridge at Court Place Farm on Saturday.
The win moves them up to sixth and just three points away from the play-off place, which they could reach if they win tomorrow’s game in hand against Brackley.
It looked as though the game would end in a draw only for Faulkner to crack home the winner six minutes from time.
Cambridge's long ball tactics failed to create any decent chances for their front men, while closest City came to breaking the deadlock was when Mark Bell’s corner found Andy Gunn, but he headed straight at keeper Zak Barrett.
After the break, City turned up the pressure with Barrett saving Bell’s shot at the second attempt, before he clawed away Fisher’s close range-header from Michael Lyon’s cross.
City, who had used all their subs, went down to ten men when Fisher was injured, but Faulkner’s strike re-ignited their play-off hopes.
Oxford C: Harrison, Lambert, Ballard, Gunn, Pond (Fisher 55) Savage, Lyon, Malone, Faulconbridge, (Faulkner 63), Baird (Clarke 45), Bell. Subs not used: R Brooks, Williams.
Referee: A Williams (Hereford).
Attendance: 442.
