Billy Turley believes his United teammates deserve to have something riding on the final game of the season, against Northwich, on Sunday week, for all the effort and hard work they have put in this season.
“Ever since the new manager’s come in, and with the players he’s brought in, I think they deserve to have a chance of it,” Turley said. “even if it’s the last game and we’ve got to win it.
“I feel there’s some justice there, and for the supporters. I think the fans would deserve that.”
Turley’s penalty save at York last week continued his outstanding history of saving spot kicks.
“I’ve always had a good penalty record,” he said.
“It’s funny because there were two lads fighting over the ball to see who should take it and I just went over to the lad who did and said ‘why are you putting pressure on yourself? Just give it to the other guy!’ “Jack FM said it was a poor penalty save apparently, but I’ve never seen a poor penalty save. Every save I’ve made is a brilliant penalty save!”
So does it annoy Turley and others that when a keeper saves a spot-kick, it is listed on the videprinter as ‘missed penalty rather than ‘penalty’?
“It does infuriate you a bit but you’re never going to change it,” Turley said. “It doesn’t bother me, I never read the papers.”
