With four regular first team players unavailable, North Leigh suffered a nightmare first half away to their high-flying opponents AFC Totton and lost 4-0 in British Gas Business Southern League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.
All Totton’s goals came before the break.
After two minutes, a long throw from the right into the Leigh box was not cleared, and Totton striker Justin Bennett tapped home from close range.
The visitors mounted a series of attacks with Chris Allen, Liam Hope and Ben Reardon prominent.
But Totton doubled their lead when James Taylor prodded the ball past a stranded North Leigh keeper Lee Farrow.
Bennett soon made it 3-0, while Aiden Lewis added another after beating the off-side trap to make it a miserable first half for North Leigh. With defence and midfield reorganised, the away side put up sterner resistence in the second half, with both Reardon and Hope having efforts saved, while new signing Tom Butler showed promise.
They will be hoping to do better at home to Abingdon United today.
North Leigh: Farrow, Sadler, Weedon (Butler 53), Hole, Huxley, Dodds, Collins, Helby (Burnley 67), Hope, Reardon, Allen.
Attendance: 336.
