Ricky Johnson scored a hat-trick to help Hook Norton get out of jail in a dramatic 4-4 draw with Kidlington in the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Premier Division at Yarnton Road on Saturday.
Midway through the second half, Kidlington led 4-1 and appeared to be cruising to victory against their injury-hit opponents.
But Hooky, who had Ali Robinson taken to hospital with concussion following an accidental clash of heads, stormed back, Johnson snatching a point from the penalty spot five minutes from time with his 31st league goal of the season.
The teams were level 1-1 at half-time, Johnson heading Hooky into the lead after three minutes, before Kidlington’s Jimmy Deabill nodded home Adan Lovegrove’s cross for the equaliser.
Kidlington went on a goal spree early in the second half.
Lovegrove scored twice – goals made by Deabill and Lewis Gabbidon respectively – before Andy Styles made it 4-1.
Johnson headed home Carl Standen’s cross, before Joe Davies made it 4-3 with a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area.
Five minutes from time, Peter Vaughan was brought down in the area and Johnson completed Hook’s remarkable recovery.
Witney United had to settle for a share of the spoils as they were held to a 1-1 draw in their west Oxfordshire derby with Old Woodstock Town. In a tight first half, after Gary Wickens and Ben Thompson had been denied by Alan Foster, the Woodstock keeper was beaten by one of his own defenders.
A corner was swung in by Ryan Curtin and flicked on by Thompson. The ball struck Ben Willoughby on the chest and went into the net for an own goal.
Five minutes before the break the visitors drew level.
Witney failed to clear a corner and the ball broke to Mark Wilson whose shot dropped into the net following a mistake by keeper Richard Barrett.
In a quiet second half, Witney came closest ro scoring when John McMahon had a shot cleared off the line.
Wantage Town maintained their good run, which has taken them away from the relgation zone, when three second-half goals helped them beat Shrivenham 3-0.
They went ahead in the 50th minute when Matty Horsell’s inswinging corner beat Shrivenham’s ex-Wantage keeper Luke Alford and was nudged over the line by the unmarked Like Illsley.
Two goals in the last ten minutes by Danny Keen sealed Wantage’s win.
The first came from Ellis Langford’s pass and the second after substitute Sean McKeon’s shot had rebounded back off a post.
A goal after two minutes condemned struggling Milton United to a 1-0 defeatat home to Almondsbury.
Paul Milson netted from close range for Almondsbury, who were thereafter denied by a brave performance from the hosts.
This was exemplied by keeper Craig Griffiths, who was injured after crashing into a goalpost, but carried on playing due to a shortage of substitutes.
