Linear regular Angie Lawley, who travels down from West Bromwich in the West Midlands to fish the Stanton Harcourt complex, landed ‘The Big Ghostie’ on her last visit to St John’s Lake.
It weighed 29.10.0 and was part of a 14-fish catch which included a number of other 20s, topped by a common that weighed 30lb exactly.
Angie used SBS fruit boilies and corn poppers, attached to a size 8 Korda wide gap hook. Mainline was 10lb Pro Gold (Terry Eustace) and Suffix stealth skin 15lb hooklink.
Meanwhile’s Linear’s Gaunts Lake is also on song. Maver consultant Derek Ritchie, from Essex, spent four days on the water and was rewarded with a 42.8.0 mirror, plus five doubles.
He baited up his swim with maggot and 10mm Mainline boilies and then fished a bright Mainline pineapple boilie pop-up. His rig was tied with a 25lb Maver braided hooklink and a size 8 MV2 hook. It was his only bite of a three-day session and it came from a gravel patch close to the island.

l Phil Baker emailed me to say that he got a figure wrong in last week’s news about the open day at Millets Farm trout fishery. It will cost £15, not £10, on the day to fish. That entitles you to keep two rainbows and release a further three.
LOCAL big-pike angler and author Paul Gustafson, from Abingdon, has updated his website dedicated to his Eggbert books for children.
It now includes more activites for kids and also a board game.
Paul also has two new books coming out soon, including one in which Eggbert goes pike fishing.
