Eynsham B, from Division 2 of the Gentworks Oxford & District Snooker League, snatched a 4-3 victory in the final of the Buildbase Cup after an epic clash with Premier Division outfit Riley B.
The top-flight side were conceding 32 points handicap a frame, but twice threw away leads.
Although Dan Brooks put Eynsham ahead with a respotted black, Matthew Challen levelled before Dave Bough put Riley 2-1 ahead.
Tim Bowles made it 2-2 going into the final pairing of the night.
Malcolm Bough’s victory put Riley a frame away from glory, but John Ayres took the match to a seventh and deciding leg.
And it was a frame never to forget.
Despite being in command, Ayres, when snookered, went for the green instead of the yellow – and gave away four fouls before finally realising his error.
To his credit, he stayed calm and potted the pink and black to win by a single point, 90-89, and give Eynsham victory.
In the final of the Buildbase Plate, Littlemore RBL A found giving their opponents 24 points per frame a bridge too far – succumbing to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Riley F.
Wayne Montgomery and Steve Fitzgerald shared the opening frames, but wins for Chris Williams, twice, and Kenny Broster sealed victory.
In the league, Fieldside A failed to win for the first time this season after being held to a 3-3 draw against Riley A.
However, they are still firm favourites to take the Premier Division crown.
