Witney Roadrunner Tony Lock confirmed his return to form with a superb showing in the White Horse Half Mara-thon at Grove.

The 43-year-old crossed the line second in 1hr 15mins 5secs, which landed him the Oxfordshire open and vet 40 titles after edging out Woodstock Harrier James Bolton.

Lock was also the first vet 40 home, while Bolton finished third, just seven seconds behind Lock to land the Oxon senior men’s title.

The main race was won easily by Paul Farmer (Ampthill & Flitwick Flyers) in 1.12.06. Bournemouth’s Charlotte Penfold was the first woman home in 1.21.57.

Woodstock’s Bryan Vaughsecured the county crown and first vet 50 prize in 1.19.16, as did Oxford City’s Roy Treadwell (1.25.28) at vet 60 level.

The first Oxfordshire woman home was Alchester’s Liz Grolimund, who finished third in 1.28.48 and secured the county senior title.

In the vet 45 class, Alchester’s Angela Banks was a comfortable winner of both the open and Oxfordshire crowns in a time of 1.31.48.

Sarah Grylls (Headington Roadrunners) took the vet 55 county title in 2.06.01.

Woodstock retained the men’s team title thanks to Bolton, Brian O’Connor, Vaughan and Hans Price.

Alchester won both women’s team events with Grolimund, Sarah Rendell and Banks their scorers.

WOODSTOCK Harrier Paul Brackett ran one and a half marathons at the weekend.

Brackett completed the off-road Bath Beat Marathon on Saturday in 4hrs 29mins.

Then on Sunday he clocked a very creditable 1.41 for the White Horse Half Marathon.

ROBIN Gardner, a 51-year-old runner from Combe, finished second in the Crawley 12 hour track race.

Gardner’s distance of 75 miles was just two laps behind the 37-year-old Tom Meldrum.

This was the former Woodstock Harrier’s first long distance race since sustaining a serious injury in the Del Passatore 100km held in Italy in 1997.
