A fighting par on the final hole by John Lally and Donovan Henderson-Sowerby helped Burford defeat Oxford City 3-0 in Section 1 of the Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League.

The pair scrambled well after straying into the trees to hold onto a one-hole lead against City’s Adam Wootton and Ian Bound in match three.

Burford’s John Wilks and Tom Dexter also won by one hole, pipping Larry Holder and Craig Marriott.

Three birdies in the first six holes gave Ian Liddle and Simon Hopkins the platform for a 3 & 2 victory over City’s Graham Hoult and Mark Hall in match two.

North Oxford were left disappointed by a 2-1 home defeat to Studley Wood in Section 2.

Their point came from Martyn Booth and Paul Barrow.
