Chinnor scrum half Toby Prescott was a title winner this time last season, but he has no regrets at now being in a relegation battle.

Prescott, who has been one of Chinnor’s most consistent players this campaign, joined the club from Tring, with whom he won London 2 North last year.

The 25-year-old played under Chinnor coach Jason Bowers at Tring and made the switch after Bowers got in touch.

Despite finding himself at the wrong end of National 3 South, Prescott feels he is improving all the time.

“I have been really pleased with the decision to come across,” said Prescott (below).

“The social side has been brilliant. On the rugby side, I am enjoying playing in a tough competition.

“You have always got to push yourself.

“I think there is still a lot of things I need to work on, but the coaching is really good.

“Every game I hope I’m learning and improving as a player.”

Prescott began the season in direct competition for the No 9 shirt with Chris Rowley, another new recruit, but has made the position his own.

“Chris has been really unlucky,” said Prescott. “He looks to be out for the rest of the season with a neck injury.

“We have pushed each other and learnt a lot from each other.”

As for his style of play, Prescott said: “I want to keep the tempo high, it suits my game. I am more of a nine that likes to snipe and have a go.

“Fortunately we have a captain in Hutch (Matt Hutchings) who tells us when to slow it down.”

Speaking of Chinnor’s relegation battle, Prescott added: “I haven’t thought for a second we deserve to go down.

“We need to put two big performances in.

“We have got a really big game next week. We have got to get at least four points from it.”
