Oxford Boxing Academy’s Daza Usher proved too slick and powerful for Shrewsbury rival Michael Dungey in their welterweight clash at Worcester.

The 24-year-old Bicester fitness instructor took control of this four-round encounter from the bell by piercing the Salop southpaw’s guard with a succession of of straight rights and looping left hands.

Dungey’s face reflected the course of the battle – a large swelling across his brow and his right eye was starting to close – as Usher cruised to a comprehensive points victory.

Berinsfield light flyweight Will Healy refused to be dragged into a brawl by Synwell rival Ben Aldridge at during their clash at Bristol.

Aldridge steamed out of his corner and tried to bully his Oxfordshire rival.

But Healy, 14, kept his guard intact and swiftly turned the tables as he proved far too nimble on the back foot.

Neat hooks, uppercuts and straight rights began to scythe through his rival’s defences and Aldridge – as he dropped his hands – was rocked by a right uppercut that heralded a standing count towards the end of round two.

Healy retained his composure and consolidated his advantage in the final session to emerge with a comprehensive points victory. Also at Bristol, Tomas McDonagh, 16, looked on course for victory in his lightweight clash with Synwell’s Callum Jones.

He totally dominated the first half of this encounter with an array of solid shots off a refined jab.

But Jones rallied towards the end of the second session and just edged ahead to clinch the narrowest of split decisions.
