Bob Baker won the praise of head coach Shaun Edwards after making his Wasps debut in their Guinness Premiership victory over Bristol.

The 19-year-old prop, who has come through the ranks at Chinnor, was a late call-up at tight-head for Sunday’s match after Pat Barnard’s lingering knee injury ruled him out.

Wasps Academy player Baker has impressed for Chinnor in National 3 South and England Under 20s this season.

But he demonstrated his top-flight ability in the 21-19 victory over Bristol, even creating a try for wing Lachlan Marshall with a long pass.

Edwards said: “He showed he has got big potential moving forward.

“I think he tired a little bit understandably in the scrums in the second half.

“But all in all, it was a very creditable performance.”

Chinnor pair Christian Wade and Jack Wallace scored tries as England Under 18s defeated Scotland 63-0 at Kingston Park, Newcastle.

The duo both went over in the first half, while fellow Wasps Academy and Chinnor player, back-row forward Sam Jones, came on after the break.

Another in England Under 18 action was Oxon and Henley College wing Will Jones.

Jones, who is also part of the Wasps Academy, started for England’s Association Euro-peenne de Rugby (AER) side in their 50-14 victory over Japan at Plymouth Albion.

The AER tournament in April runs parallel to England’s main fixtures, allowing more players to gain international experience.

Witney Angels will star in The Big Tackle with Austin Healey on ITV4 this Sunday (7.30pm).

This is the third episode of Healey’s series in which he tries to improve the fortunes of rugby clubs.

The official press release states: “Austin has his hands full with the girls who pride themselves on playing hard, but partying harder, which is affecting their games and resulting in lost matches.

“Thankfully for Austin, the fun loving bunch are keen to learn and utilise their facilities, but even with the positive attitude of these lively ladies will Austin be able turn this team into a winning club?”
