Banbury United reached the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final after a 3-2 extra-time victory over Oxford City at the Spencer Stadium.

James Faulkner skimmed the top of the bar for City with the best early chance.

Nicky Gordon put Banbury ahead with a 38th-minute penalty after Andy Ballard fouled Dave Stone.

Craig Faulconbridge equalised two minutes from time after heading in Ballard’s long throw.

Gordon shot wide after being put clear in extra time, but Anton Sambrook gave Banbury the lead again on 101 minutes after converting a cross from the right.

Faulkner missed two good chances for City before Stone made it 3-1 on 110 minutes, netting the rebound after Steve Williams had saved Lewis Travers’s shot.

Lee Rendell scored a second for City with five minutes left, but it was not enough.

Banbury now face the winners of tonight’s other semi-final at Court Place Farm between North Leigh and Oxford United.

Holders North Leigh will be without defender Jamie Jackson (thigh injury) and Stuart Hole (holiday), while United are expected to field a side made up of youngsters and senior fringe players.

North Leigh (v Oxford Utd): from Farrow, C Weedon, Huxley, Dodds, Futcher, Allen, Burnell, Helby, Reardon, McCabe, Hope, Parker, Sadler, Burnley, Herbert (GK).

Didcot Town’s play-off hopes suffered another blow with a 2-1 defeat at Cinderford Town in BGB Southern League Division 1 South & West.

The home side took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Lewis Summers.

Michael Bartley struck a post for Didcot midway through the second half before Philip John equalised following a corner.

But Cinderford bagged a late winner when Simon Truman headed home.
