Relegation-haunted Milton United’s survival hopes in the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Premier Division have been rocked following the resignations of three board members at an extraordinary general meeting.

Vice-president John Cannon, chairman Barry Griffiths and secretary Julie Griffiths quit at the meeting at The Heights, which was called by members worried about the future of the club, which this year celebrates its centenary.

It’s another hammer blow to Milton, who last month were told that Oxford United, who have used the club’s facilities to train for the past few seasons, would be relocating to Chesterton from next season.

The team is being run by Andy Bone after previous manager Kevin Lloyd moved upstairs.

Treasurer Roger Bartlett has taken over as acting chairman, assisted by the club’s groundsman, John Belcher. Sharon Palmer and Paul Sedgebeer will cover the fixtures and Pauline Mackay will act as treasurer.

Bartlett said another EGM will be held later this week to nominate and vote for a new board.

Former club press officer Alan Humphries said it was hoped that a new chairman would be in place by the weekend.

He added: “The meeting was called because people were worried about next season.

“They wanted to make sure there would be a club there next year, because of course we will miss the finance from Oxford United.

“It was a good meeting because it cleared the air.

“We’ve not been having the best of seasons and we’ve got some difficult games coming up against other teams who are down there.

“We’ve got Bicester away tonight and that’s followed by bottom club Harrow Hill and Bicester at home later in the season. So it’s in our own hands. A lot of the players have left and we’ve got a young side.

“If we get relegated then we would probably play in Division 1 East.”

AFC Wallingford were forced to withdraw from the Hellenic League last season due to financial difficulties.

They now compete in the North Berks League where they are battling to avoid relegation from Division 1.
