Two tries in the final 13 minutes earned Chinnor a vital 25-17 victory at Havant in National 3 South.

Centre Trevor Powell’s effort put Chinnor 18-17 up then wing Richard Williams struck for his second of the game on 77 minutes, which fly half James Cathcart converted.

And with Henley Hawks winning at Lydney, Chinnor are now five points clear of the drop zone in 11th place.

The visitors were without prop Bob Baker, who was a late call up for Wasps, but brought in wing James Serrano, prop Tom Whelan, lock Andy Millburn and hooker Arthur Ellis.

Chinnor started positively and were rewarded on nine minutes when Williams finished a sweeping move and Cathcart converted.

Cathcart’s 30th minute penalty put the visitors 10-0 up and they missed a couple of chances before the break.

Havant scrum half Liam Davenport slotted a penalty then converted a fine solo try from full back Karim Ward after 61 minutes.

Cathcart edged Chinnor ahead with a penalty, but another try by Ryan McBride, straight from the kick-off, converted by Davenport, put Havant four points ahead.

Chinnor came back strongly, but their victory was tempered by Angus Neilson suffering delayed concussion.

The Australian flanker spent Saturday night in Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, and may now have to sit out the rest of the season.

Henley Hawks battled back from 17-7 down to defeat their hosts Lydney 26-20.

Hawks took the lead on six minutes when Neil Baggett carved a whole in the defence to score and fellow centre Danny Wells converted.

They could have increased their advantage, but were called back for forward passes, with Baggett clean through on one occasion.

Full back Tony Wicks scored Lydney’s only try, while fly half Mark Davies added four penalties to put his side 17-7 up after 54 minutes.

Henley’s replacement fly-half Will Fulton stepped the defence to touch down an unconverted try, but Davies then kicked his fifth penalty.

Three bursts from Hawks’ captain Matt Payne took him close, and full back Pete Davies was on hand to touch down their third try.

Wells converted this and a fourth score from replacement wing Angelo Flammia, who was set up by Davies.
