Rachel King, from Waterperry, near Thame, recorded her first winner under National Hunt Rules with victory aboard Brer Bear for Cholsey trainer Emma Insley at Newbury on Friday.
King, who works for top National Hunt trainer Alan King (no relation), piloted the ten-year-old – a 14-1 chance – home by a neck from odds-on favourite Dante’s Storm in a thrilling finish to the Montpelier Re Hunters’ Chase.
Brer Bear, who is owned by Insley’s husband, Charles, gave the trainer her first success under Rules when landing a Stratford hunters’ chase three years ago.
