Predator’s Spring League kicked off at the Dog Lane Fishery where 18 matchmen enjoyed the glorious weather and the fishing wasn’t bad either.

It was Predator’s own Andy Benwell who came in first with a net of carp weighing 57.6.0 on the pole at 16 metres with corn, feeding micro pellets Richard Foley targeted the island with the method feeder and corn, finishing second with 26.4.0 of carp.

Keeping it in the family, Gerald Foley settled for third place with 24.14.0. He alternated between feeder and pole, using corn.

The youngest angler in the field was Mathew Tuppenny, who usually fishes in Kidlington’s junior matches.

And he had a right battle on his hands when he latched into an 11.10.0 carp which was successfully landed.

Last Saturday, Kinloch AC fished their final match of the river season on the marina over at Lechlade, which attracted 16 anglers.

The river fished well with everyone catching and in top spot was Colin Manning with a net of perch weighing 11.8.0.

His fish averaged more 1lb and he had them all on pole with worm on the hook, feeding chop.

Derek Pumfrey worked really hard to take second place with 9.0.0 of bleak on the whip and pinkie, while third with 4.3.0 was Dean Bowerman.

Dean fished the pole and caught small roach on pinkie and chopped worm.

2008/09 Points Shield: F Harrison 65pts, D Bowerman 63, C Mills 59.

Last Saturday also saw four members of North Oxford AS fish their Secretaries Invitation match on the Seacourt.

The stream looked good, but I was told it was like tap water and only two anglers caught.

Feeding chopped worm and using a stick float with maggot, Bob Gosbee landed three chub and two dace for a winning 6.8.0.

Pegged at the Mill Pool, Martin Avons had one bite from a 1.11.0 perch which took worm.

Sunday’s match at Panshill’s Hill Lake produced some big carp, the top two anglers each weighing in four of them for over 50lb.
