Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey has saluted the efforts of his players against Stourbridge and asked for more of the same when they entertain Tiverton Town at Spencer Stadium on Saturday.

Although Jeffrey’s side are one place above the BGB Southern League Premier Division drop-zone, they have played more games than their rivals, so a win is vital.

“I was reallty pleased with the attitude and the application they showed against Stourbridge,” said Jeffrey.

“What I spoke about at training on Monday they carried out on Tuesday.

“Now we’ve got to get up and go for Saturday. That’s the target – to get six points from these two games.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey said he was delighted midfielder George Redknap, who looked like quitting the club on Saturday, had decided to return to the fold.

On Tuesday, Redknap scored one of the goals in their 2-0 win.

Jeffrey said: “I had a chat with George the other day and he was not happy with the way it had been going at Banbury. So we’re just going to see how it goes.

“He did very well the other night. It is good to have him back.

“When I have come up against him as a manager, he always played very well and of course he scores a few goals.”

The boss revealed that he had been in contact with Oxford City’s assistant manager Mike Ford (City beat them 3-0 on Tuesday) to get the inside track on the west country side.

He added: “I know they are a strong, physical side.”

Jeffrey said he was hoping to have a couple of signings in place.

Winger Jon Gardner and striker Nicky Gordon should be fit after both picked up minor injuries in Tuesday’s win.

Play-off chasers Oxford City welcome back striker Craig Faulconbridge for their home clash with Brackley Town.

But they will be without suspended frontmen James Faulkner and Andy Baird.

City player-manager Justin Merritt said he was relishing the game.

He said: “I played under Phil Lines at Brackley, Fordy used to be manager and we got Dave Savage from Brackley.

“So they’ll be a bit on it. I’m just focusing on what we do.

“We are four points clear of them though they have two games in hand, so it’s important we get a win.”

Abingdon United host Didcot Town in Division 1 South & West seeking to avenge their 5-4 defeat at Loop Meadow Stadium earlier in the season.

Slater’s side have won four of their last five games, including Tuesday’s 3-1 win at Thatcham.

Slater said: “We might have done them a favour the other night, but we certainly won’t be doing them any favours on Saturday.”

Didcot add Andy Parrott to their squad, though Matty Jack has joined Hellenic League side Hungerford.

Boss Stuart Peace said: “He had retired because he had big work commitments and his girlfriend had a baby.

“He trained well on Tuesday and is added to the squad. It’s quite handy for us because we are without Martin Brown who is at a wedding.”

North Leigh are without Jamie Jackson (thigh strain) and Karl Dodds (broken nose) for their trip to Bracknell.

Harry Burnley has rejoined from Witney.
