BillyJeffrey recorded his first win as Banbury United manager after steering his side to a 2-0 victory over Stourbridge in Tuesday's Southern League Premier Division clash.

Jeffrey, who was only appointed on Friday, saw his side move out of the relegation zone with an impressive display.

Howard Forinton should have scored inside a minute, when he shot wide when clean through.

But the striker made amends for his early miss when he rose to head a Richard Groves free-kick against a post, and Jon Gardner swooped to nod in the rebound from close-range.

Two minutes after half-time, Gardner skipped down the wing and crossed for George Redknap to head home.

Banbury had to stand firm as Stourbridge pushed forward, but could have had more goals, with striker Nicky Gordon seeing two one-on-one opportunities go begging.

Oxford City produced a fine performance to beat Tiverton 3-0 and climb to ninth.

After keeper Ryan Harrison did well to keep out an early shot from the visitors, City took control.

However, for all their possession, City struggled to create any worthwhile chances until they took the lead three minutes before half-time.

Mark Bell’s free-kick was headed home well at the far post by Andy Baird.

Darren Pond was denied by a point-blank save from Steven Book early in the second half, before two goals in as many minutes made the points safe.

Bell, seeing the keeper off his line, hit a speculative shot that flew into the net from all of 35 yards in the 79th minute.

And 60 seconds later, when the visiting defence failed to clear their lines, Baird headed home his second of the game.

Abingdon United enjoyed a 3-1 win at Thatcham in Division 1 South & West Matt Biddle (4), Luke Holden (40) and Anaclet Odhiambo (90) scored their goals.
