Two tries from Sam Townsend helped Chipping Norton defeat promotion-chasing Milton Keynes 39-25 at Greystones in Southern Counties North.

Flanker Matt Dawson’s fine individual try gave Chippy the perfect start in an entertaining match.

Milton hit back with two quick penalties.

Chippy were soon back in the driving seat when Tom Hall crashed over, Adam Smith adding the extras.

The visitors got back within one point with a try after a quick penalty caught the home defence napping.

Townsend’s first try gave Chippy a 17-11 half-time lead.

Centre Neil Penny went over for a try, which Smith converted and then added a penalty.

Milton managed another try, but Chippy wing Chris Dixon pounced on a mistake to score.

Smith added the conversion and was needed again almost immediately when from the kick-off. Townsend showed great pace to claim his brace and notch in the corner.

The visitors showed some great spirit to score late on.

Witney made it seven wins out of eight in 2009 with a 32-17 home victory over Swindon.

Ed Mitchem, Gareth Campbell, Phil Gouldie and Joe Rowles ran in tries, with Mitchem adding three conversions and two penalties.

Bicester lost 44-12 at home to relegation rivals Aylesbury after a disjointed and error-strewn display.

It was 31-0 at half-time, so their improved second-half was of little consolation.

Lock Jim Dodds, fly half Gary Horne, centre Adam Brown and flanker Christian Hansen all scored first-half tries for Aylesbury, with Horne converting each one and adding a drop goal.

Bicester centre Chris Nash bagged their first try on 45 minutes, which Steve Risbridger converted.

Replacement Chad Ward was sin-binned for killing the ball and Horne slotted the penalty.

Bicester’s Leigh Rushworth saved a try with a great tackle on Tom Evans, but Aylesbury wing James Woodfall went over soon after, with Horne converting.

Martin Linstrom, Dan Spencer and Ward created Bicester’s second try for Rushworth. Horne had the final say with a penalty.

Grove lost 33-15 at Windsor.
