Chris Aust won two gold medals at the Oxfordshire & North Bucks Championships only days following the death of his father.

Nigel Aust, the coach at Kidlington Gosford SC, died in the week before before event which was held in Aylesbury.

His son won the County Championship for 50m breaststroke in a new record time. He also landed the 100m individual medley and was second in the 50m freestyle All Kidlington’s competitors produced personal best times, including Sam Fowler, who was second in the junior 50m freestyle.

“Their effort was a real tribute to Nigel,” said Kidlington member Kay Hoffman.

City of Oxford, meanwhile, won 28 golds, 24 silver and 11 bronze, and set two county records and a national qualifying time at the championships.

The boys’ 16 and under 400m freestyle relay team Drew Finnigan, Guy Giles, Ben Chapman and Sam Van de Schootbrugge secured their gold with a county record time of 3.45.67 and were second in the 200m medley relay.

Van de Schootbrugge took gold in 100m backstroke – with Finnigan second – and was also second in the 100m individual medley Giles won silver 100m butterfly with Thomasso Pappagallo taking bronze, their positions were reversed the 200m butterfly.

Joe Canlan-Shaw, 21, was first in 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

Thomas Panton, 13 won gold for his 50m freestyle and Max Williamson was 3rd 200m breaststroke.

The club’s girls relay teams dominated the 200m medley where both 9-10 and 11-12 age groups won took gold. The 11-12 relay also won gold in the 200m freestyle.

Lucy Smith, 12, secured her first national qualifying time when she came first in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2.13.60.

Smith also took gold in the 100m free and 50m butterfly, with teammate Emma Lomas taking silver in these four events.

Lomas then won gold in 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 50m backstroke, with Smith taking the silvers.

Lucy Gaen continued her domination of the ten-year age group with winning performances in 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m and 50m backstroke.

Hannah Vine, 14, won gold, junior and senior championship trophies for her 100m breaststroke.

Molly Willamson, 13, won the 50m butterfly and Charlotte Alsop, 13, landed the 200m backstroke. Carly Hayles took gold for 16 age group in this event.

Danielle Watts, 28, completed a double gold, winning both the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke multi-disability events.

Ellie Millington, nine, took the 50m butterfly, while Marianna Kristjansdottir, 15, secured success her first gold in 200m freestyle.

Marino Kristjansson went one better with gold in both 100m and 200m butterfly.

Abingdon Vale's Harry Basterfield captured two gold medals.

The 11-year-old won the 100m backstroke in a meet record of 1min 18.31secs as well as the 50m freestyle.

Vale's girls open 400m-medley relay team of Imogen West, Olivia Law, Amira Mullaney, Olivia Basterfield gained a silver medal in 4.47.15.
