Congratulations to Oxford Drennan for coming second last weekend in the regional semi-final for this year’s Angling Times Winter League.

Their performance secured a place in the final, which will take place on the River Nene in Peterborough in June.

The match was fished on the Grand Union canal at Milton Keynes and fished by some of the most respected match anglers in the country.

Team captain Martin Phipps said: “I can honestly say that the team performed marvellously, and we are all really excited.”

Mike Hamblett caught a cracking local chub recently.

Mike had the fish, which weighed in at 7lb 8oz, on a piece of bread and used 3lb mainline and a size 14 hook.

Besides the chub, Mike also landed a lovely rudd which went 2lb 4oz.

WELL-known angling writer and specimen hunter Duncan Charman, from Aldershot, had a bit of a session on a local pit and netted a nice roach weighing 2lb 4oz.

Duncan used a self-hooking feeder rig with double white maggot, flavoured with turmeric.

Duncan is still in with a shout for this year’s Drennan Cup.
