Oxfordshire landed the EBPF National County title after beating tournament favourites East London in the final at Selsey.

In the group stages, Oxon started reasonably well, but lost 14-12 to West Berkshire, despite Kevin McIlroy achieving maximum points.

Oxfordshire hit back to win their second match against Middlesex 14-11, with some fine performances from Matthew Challen and a match-winning clearance from Ash Fletcher.

Oxon then beat South Derby 14-8 in their next match with Adam Brown, Challen and John Kinsey scoring well.

They then posted a superb 14-5 victory against East London, before confirming top spot in their group with a 14-11 win against Bristol.

The semi-final against Derbyshire proved a tense affair, and with Brown producing a maximum, the match went down to the final frame.

Pete Maconochie held his nerve to win the decider to put Oxfordshire in the final with a 14-13 triumph.

East London again provided the opposition in the final, and Oxfordshire eased into a 3-0 lead.

East London took the next four, before Marcus Guise and Brown won crucial frames to give Oxon a 5-4 lead.

After that, frames were traded until a crucial five-minute period saw Oxfordshire snatch four wins to create a 12-8 lead.

Maconochie made another clearance under pressure, and the title was wrapped up by Jamey Street, who, with another calm clearance, completed Oxfordshire’s 14-8 triumph.

In the inaugural over 40s competition, Oxfordshire beat Middlesex in the final to land the title.

After a shaky start, Oxon edged through for a semi-final clash with favourites Derbyshire, where a flawless display from Malcolm Lewis saw them into the final against Middlesex.

Chris Webb produced three wins from four to set up John Bland to seal the title with a title-winning black.

Oxfordshire B, led by Ash Penny-Larter, beat Warwickshire, Essex and Middlesex in the group stages, but missed out on a semi-final on frame difference.

Tom Williams, who also reached the last 16 of the singles, topped the B team rankings.

Oxfordshire ladies had a mixed bag of results, and just missed out on the semi-finals, while in the singles, Nicky Hoskins reached the semi-finals.

The county also sent two youth teams to Selsey, with the A team losing out in their last four clash with rivals Berkshire, while the B team were knocked out in the group stages.

In the singles, Andrew Gee and Rhys Freemire both made it into the quarter-finals.
