Wallingford will be in South West 1 next season, but coach Chris Norrington says their focus is on consolidation.

Next year’s restructure of the National Leagues will see Wallingford’s division renamed South West 1 East.

Having won promotion in their past two campaigns, Wallingford will now ‘go up’ in name only, but Norrington is not getting carried away.

“At the moment, we’ve not got the overall strength to push on,” said Norrington “You never know, in the next couple of years that may change.

“But for now, we need to consolidate.”

Despite this, Norrington has been pleased with the efforts of the squad players, who have been involved recently.

Wallingford kept pace with the top three teams in the league early in the season, but are now stuck in mid-table.

Norrington accepts there is a danger of the campaign petering out.

But he stressed: “It is still a good experience playing at this level.

“I want to see us compete and play a bit more rugby.

“Hopefully, we’ll get a bit more luck with injuries, but it is my job and the players’ job to deal with them.”
