DOLPHIN B produced a tremendous display to inflict Section 2 leaders Democrats’ first defeat of the season, writes PETE EWINS.

Democrats, seemingly running away with the title, could do little to stop an on-song Dolphins side, who raced into a 3-1 lead thanks to victories from Mel Standbridge (8,040), Adam Thorn (7,240) and Paul Butcher (3,540).

Despite the defeat, Democrats still look certain to claim the crown.

Berinsfield improved their chances of clinching the runners-up spot with a 5-0 home victory over Nelson B.

Sandra Tebby (3,460), Eddy Tebby (6,150), Geoff Mace (7,830), Tony Broadway (6,150) and Dave Lyne (3,570) were in fine form.

Premier Section leaders Horse & Harrow enjoyed a 3-2 away win at Gladiators A.

Horse & Harrow went 2-0 in front through Maxie McDonnell and Ian Moquet.

Gladiators hit back to level after wins from Frank Cox (8,220), Bert Lovegrove (8,100).

But Paul Lawson won the deciding game with a score of 12,370 to give Horse & Harrow the victory.

Second-placed Nelson A are two points behind the leaders after a 4-1 home win against Dolphin A.

Stephen Sheard scored 18,170 in the first game with breaks of 9,770 and 8,400.

The only winner for Dolphins was Simon Ellam 9,310 (break 5,300).

Masons B won 3-2 at home to Vikings Club.

Star of the evening was Chris Webb (12,840), who hit an 11,000 break to win the final, deciding match.
