Charlbury’s Mark Mills took the title with 10.5.0, which included a chub of 3.15.0, plus decent roach and perch, on stick float with maggot.

A chub of 4.8.0, plus some roach, on pole and red maggot gave Don Barnes (Coldstone) second spot with 6.5.0, followed by Malcolm Barnes (Coldstone), who landed a nice chub and roach on the pole and maggot for 4.9.0.

Oxford Bus AC fancied a change from their school waters on the Cherwell, so nine of them travelled over to Lodge Farm, Fritwell.

Doug Robinson was pegged by the outfall and emerged the clear winner with 44.14.0 of carp on pellet, feeding micro pellet.

A net of carp and perch worth 18.9.0 on maggot gave Anthony Tompkins second place, while Tony Prescott also used maggot to take third with a net of carp worth 16.02.0.

The last match in the Masons’ Club League was fished at Radley, where the Thames was flowing fast, but clear. Seven of the 12 anglers drew a blank.

It turned into abit of a ‘red letter day’ for Alan ‘Smudge’ Smith, who found 11 chub with the maggot-feeder to the far bank for 37.6.0, including a cracking fish of 6.2.0, to win the match.

He also drew the golden peg, won the Simmons Cup and the Chub Cup for the best fish of the season!

Fishing similar tactics, Andy Webb in second found four bream and a chub for 16.0.0, while Dave Pether caught three bream and a chub for a third-placed 10.8.0.

Final league positions: Top A anglers: D Pether, runner-up A Smith; Top B angler: D Patrick, runner-up B Goodman.

Yarnton fished their Pairs Match at Barford, where the 16 anglers found the Medieval Lake in good form.

At the weigh-in, Tony Wright (Predator) took first place with a net of carp weighing 34.7.0, having fished the pole at 10 metres with corn.

In second place on the Moat Lake, Andy Wiffen (RS Baits) used pellet to put 29.15.0 of carp on the scales,while third was Predator’s Scott Miller, who used maggot to catch carp and roach for 14.14.0.

Littlemore’s APC Challenge Cup was moved from Sandford to the Channel on the Thames where there were some cracking fish caught.

Alan Campbell was a clear winner with five chub to 5lb, plus a perch, on maggot-feeder for 22.2.0.

On the next peg, Gerald Perks also fished the feeder and banked three chub for 12.8.0, followed by John Davis with two chub, plus roach and perch, for 10.4.0.

The Thame at Wheatley was in fine form for Oxford Waltonians’ Wheatley Shield, fished by eight.

Paul Bowers found seven chub on worm and caster for a top weight of 21.14.0, while Acorn Angling’s Tony Gee finished second with 8.14.0. That included two chub, the best going 5.14.0, which took ledgered bread.

Mick Baston fished pole and maggot to tempt three chub for 7.13.0.

Eight anglers fished the final leg of Sutton Courtenay’s Markertow Shield at Culham Cut, where worm was the bait used by the first three anglers.

Steve Wheatley put a tench and three perch on the scales for a winning 7.9.0 on the pole, while Phil Boyes landed three perch on waggler worth a second-placed 4.14.0. Two perch gave Gary Stafford third with 3.14.0.

Eleven anglers fished Cuddesdon Mill VAA’s Fred Cooper Last Chance Cup on the Thame at Warren Barn, where Brian Hutchings netted two chub weighing for a winning 6.15.0.

Also using bread, but this time legering it, Philip Almond landed two chub for 5.15.0, and third was Mick Harding, who had a 3.6.0 chub on bread for third.

The Thames at Chalmore looked perfect for the six anglers in the Jolly Anglers match, but it didn’t produce.

Fishing groundbait feeder with maggot, Dave Mitchell triumphed with a bream and a chub caught in the first 25 minutes of the match for 6.12.0.

Also on the feeder was Lee Crook, who had a 2.4.0 chub, followed by Frank Butler with a 0.7.0 chub.

Dorchester’s Hurst Cup was fished by eight on the Thame where the first three all used maggot-feeder and all caught chub.

Rod Rose had one chub of 3.14.0, Tony Krason one weighing 3.1.0 and Lol Budd a fish of 2.0.0.
