Promising Oxfordshire boxer Clinton Townsend has just rerurned from a week’s expert tuition with a world champion The 15-year-old from Witney, a member of the Oxford Boxing Academy, trained at the TKO Gym in Tenerife with WBO super-featherweight title holder Nicky Cook.

Townsend, a Home Counties age-group champion, took part in altitude training runs with Cook himself most mornings as well a lot of beach runs.

Cook gave Clinton the chance to spar against him. Also training with them every day was professional boxer Kevin Mitchell.

The gym is also used by champions such as David Haye and Amir Khan plus Ricky Hatton.

“Clinton had an absolutely great time and gained so much from it. He will be travelling back this summer with his two younger brothers, Declan and Bradley,” said his mother, Melissa.
